Biography

 

SunMi Hong was born on the 15th of July 1990 in South-Korea, Incheon.

She began to play Drums at the age of 17 At the age of 19 She got in Howon University in Korea

where she mostly played Funk and R&B Music. After a long journey exploring new ways,

 

How she discovered Jazz Amazed by the masters such as Brian Blade ,Gregory Hutchinson , Ari Hoenig, Roy Haynes She Study them intensively and got accepted in one of the most renowned Schools of jazz in Europe

 

The Conservatorium van Amsterdam Under the wing of Drum Masters such as Martijn Vink , Marcel Serierse , Lucas Sebastiaan van Merwijk , Gerhard Jeltes

 

she develop Sensitivity of playing , Swing feel and a Personal identity in Music.

From Then on She had the opportunity to play with Jazz Musicians like, Benjamin Herman , Jasper blom, Martijn van Iterson , Frans van der hoeven.

Also performed in Big Bands alongside with Jesse van Ruler, Simon Rigter, Abel Marcel, Humphrey Campbell

and Conducters such as Justin DiCioccio and Johan Plomp. She was invited to play in a masterclasses with Trumpet player Avishai Cohen, Pianist Enrico Pieranunzi and bassist Dominique Di Piazza.

 

Currently Sunmi is involved in Jihoon Kim Trio which will be realising CD this Summer.

SunMi Hong Trio is also a project she is proud to be involved with. where she works with sensational Pianist Thomas Maasz and the Great bassist Felix Barth.
